  • this dude would drive a fucking odyssey

  • alternative to Roost? there not cheap.

  • Wow they didn't look twice at t.s.a, almost like achhhhpoliticaloooootheateroooexcuse me... what was I saying?

  • @Linus Ewe link works with Alexa

  • where's the dennis hole

  • "They're for when I'm working." (Cookie jar is completely full!)

  • Any self-respecting male would rather pay $90 for something you can buy than $12/year for something you rent. Well known fact. Also common sense {ROFL}.

  • Lmao Linus just saying you just gave out your WiFi password to Chinese hackers......

  • I ran into the issue with Chamberlain as well within the past year. I have 2 linear garage door controllers that integrate with my z wave system. I had them installed and working in my last house and brought them with me when I moved. I mounted and wired them in the new house, just to realize that I have Chamberlain garage door opener. That becomes a problem as they use some sort of serial data and microchips in the buttons instead of just a momentary button closing a contact. My fix was to run two wires into the button from the controllers and solder them to either side of the physical button before the circuitry. Thus making the chip think the button is actually being pushed each time the controllers are triggered by z wave. Not that much of a pain to do, but definitely seems unnecessary. Why does Chamberlain need serial data for the buttons? Surely not for any type of security purposes.

    • Forgot to mention that this worked great until storm season. Somehow, both buttons went bad. The controllers still work, but had to replace both buttons to get the openers to work properly. After months of sitting I was able to wire the old buttons up in parallel and use the controller again, but the buttons still act up from time to time. Not sure if electrical surge got to them or what, but it was kind of strange that they were the only device in the house that were effected.

  • Garage Genie has garage door openers you can link to your phone and use for free....

  • For folks with modern garage door openers with Network+ 2.0 using rolling codes I found out quickly this kit isn't compatible. I made a how to video to make it compatible though: ru-tv.org/tv/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KSIU1F-slGU.html

  • You really refer to your son as sweet heart?

  • There is hope to get my house more modern on a budget!

  • Bitch you outta pocket!

  • Best LTT video ever

  • This was awesome! I loved it and want more cool every day projects please!

  • well i enjoyed the video. of course he could just have bought a universal garage door opener for like 10 bucks (that work with old openers like his) but i guess that's just not his way lol

  • am i the only one who thought i was clicking on a 10 year old LTT video? xD

  • Staff only, I want in your staff.

  • "These things are gonna pay themselves back in 5 years." More like 20 minutes after this video goes live.

  • Way to body shame,Linus!!! LoL . I really don't give a shit. LoL

  • 8:58 That's how everyone has to collect their checks too

  • Home assistant and mqtt with an esp8266 and go. Total.. 5usd.

  • Brexit might be finished in 5 years

  • UGH!!! I tried this project with my Genie garage door opener (circa 2008). I managed to get the relay setup correctly in NO and inching mode and then paired with the Ewelink app. I thought everything was working correctly. Then my wife came home and mentioned that the garage door wall switch wasn't working. Hmmm. I took a look and not only does the switch not work, the lighted buttons don't work either. I've tried connecting the relay in parallel to both the garage door terminal screws and also the screws on the back of the wall switch. It seems like on my garage door that the wall switches don't only close the circuit, they also receive power from the garage door opener that light the buttons. FWIW, there are only 2 wires that go from the opener to the wall switch. ANY THOUGHTS??? :-)

  • congrats you just made airport security less safe

  • this must be the best working environment, bullying your boss by shooting nerf darts at him, 10/10

  • Esp8266 + relay + mqtt = quick, easy, and cheap.

  • Awesome xD

  • The brand reminded me of the Sister Squad

  • 5:34 That moment when Linus goes on the no fly list...

  • 1980's motors lol, they sure dont make em like they used to, nowadays you average garage door opener lasts like under 10 years on average

  • Next time linus does that with the pocket, you just blatantly grope his ass while grabbing the screwdriver, the problem will resolve itself

  • Classic dog footprints in floor concrete.

  • Yikes. Pretty misinformed here honestly. Doesn’t seem he did any research into how the MyQ app even works... Totally free, IFTTT is an optional add-on.

  • Does Jake own pants?

  • So yes; this video does provide information on a method that is technically cheaper; but there is an open source all in one solution: www.garadget.com/ this works with MQTT and Home Assistant, as such it means it's compatible with oh so many things!

  • .... Wow. I sell these to people for a living. I had no idea. I'm a little salty.

  • Came to say in the comments, why not just use and ESP8266/ESP32, but nvm that relay board has one. Lol.

  • If you place the wifi/relay unit too close to the Antenna of the door opener, you might experience RF interference. This will reduce use of the range at which the old remotes will work.

  • LTT in a nutshell: "no you can't! ...... oh"

  • *DROPPED*

  • Nice hikey at 2:12 lol

  • fire jake

  • That comment about being qualified to use a multi meter was perfect, and no joke.

  • You can do the same thing for ~$8 with a nodeMCU and a relay dev board off eBay

  • linus. did he really shoot you with a nerf dart?

  • Should have written "overdrawn sob story" instead

  • You should integrate the LG oled tv in the back

  • shows ur licence plate number lol

  • that face, when he caught them ït, was, The i don't pay you enough do i >_

  • One of The best ^-^ Ring Wi-Fi Enabled Video Doorbell in Satin Nickel, Works with Alexa amzn.to/2EEuBh1

  • lol you not film tht in fevuary in canada certain

  • FUCK subscription fees!

  • what kind of a dick wears a coat and shorts?

  • I wish all the videos with Linus dropping stuff had that animation

  • Hey, there's a kid in the video at 8 minutes. But the comments haven't been disabled by RU-tv!!! ru-tv.org/tv/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AyCQipiG6CI.html

  • Shit in the 80's was built tough. That's what having stupid high tolerances for layer heights and track thickness will do for you. That said, I save all the money on my garage door, I just get out the car and open it with a key.

  • *EXPOSED*

  • counts up for high five* goes for high five* misses* freeze frame* success!!!

  • NC stands for Normally Closed on switches

  • who have 4 car garage? ha! who have a car?

  • I have Chamberland, and I don't pay a subscription so I am not sure what your going on about, but meh what do I know ;) Have a great day.

  • Hahahah “dropped” want more of that that was epic!!!!

  • By the time this video comes out, this wont be in the garage anymore. Yea its in the garden next to the hot tub, sooo...

  • Yea you fruitcup

  • I LOVE how they miss the high five in the end after all that talking :D awesome video!

  • Should you have just emailed samy before you did this? yes. Did you? no.

  • The old openers were quality made and have lasted ~33 years (house was made the same year I was born) and im sure have alot of life left. The new stuff is cheaply made and wont last 1/3 the life if I had to bet.

  • Why do we need this when we can just push a button in the car?

  • Who says I'm breaking in to steal a TV and not watch you in your sleep.

  • someone do a shooting stars thing with that last bit of the actual video

  • Great video. Informative stuff! If these two people can set this up, anyone can 🤣

  • Is it smart to make everything smart thus susceptible to attack? We all know IoT are quite often not updated with latest firmware after some time, because company release new model so old model lives with old (full of holes) software.

  • IN the first place, why would any rational human being replace a Stanley unit with a garbage one if it still works. You gone mad or something?

  • he - l l o i -m linus (old) today: HELLO MY BOIS IM LINUS!

  • if you think those doors are old you should see ours yes we have the posh electric ones just like that but on wealthy houses the poor end got manual doors that you lift yourself that's old. no matter what doors we got its still a luxuary to have your own garage those houses cost more and not every house has one.

  • EWeLink took a billion years to connect my smart plugs

  • Who's BMW is that in the background?

  • You can integrated the ewelink apps with google home apps, so you can voice command the operation while you're driving..

  • Can I get that thing to flush my toilet?

  • Now you just have to wait that minute to get out your phone, wait while it connects to your router, and then open the app. Greatc

  • For a moment I thought linus was wearing black shoes but surprisingly he's just wearing his sandals with black socks

  • Editing was spot on!

  • Just to be fair, I have 2 chamberlain garage doors and have had them for 5 years and the smart integration is free. No need for iftt .

  • N\C no connection hahah you guys. N\C normally close, N\O Normally Open

  • 2:15 *TOE MOE ROE*

  • guys...NO means normally opened (closes when activated) NC means normally closed...

  • 5:42 how to get away with sketchy things oh boi

  • A lot of the more expensive multimeters are for testing how long a wire is and of stuff like that

  • When your garage door is smarter than you you know we've gone too far as a species.

  • terrible high-five

  • the ending miss clap tho

  • When chamberlain/liftmaster first introduced the myq feature there was a subscription requirement. For the last 5 years there has been no subscription required. It must also be noted that you should consult a qualified garage door company before attempting and modifications to your garage door or opener. It’s funny to watch these two fumble through this as they clear don’t know the first thing about openers or doors.

  • C-Common N.O. - Normally Open (in de-energized state) || N.C. - Normally Closed (in de-engergized state) so the way you would wire it is send the power that you want to gate through to the Common connection, this current will flow through the N.C. contact when the relay is de-energized, when the coil of the relay is energized, it will pull the contact away from the N.C. to the N.O. since it is now energized. Practical application for a N.C. and N.O. would be in a de-energized state to always send a signal the N.C. junction to power an indicator i.e. "Door not in motion", and the N.O. when the relay is energized to power another indicator i.e. "Door in motion". ||----------------------o N.C. (115VAC when relay isn't energized) / / Common(115 VAC) o----------/ ||----------------------o N.O. (0 VAC when relay isn't energized) A relay works on the principle of electromagnetism. When current is sent to the coil of a relay, it creates a magnetic field (energized state) which makes the armature of the common contact pull down toward the Normally Open contact. (overcoming the spring tension that keeps the armature at rest against the Normally closed contact when the coil of the relay isn't energized)

  • Everybody: recommends funny and interesting videos Linus: *mY gArAgE dOoR nEeDs A mOdErN uPgRaDe*

  • Thank you for making these videos! I love the DIY stuff please keep it up.

  • N/C normally closed NO normally open ( with regard to switch)
